Pearls

Although mothers’ day is behind us, I'd like to acknowledge my mother. She has a vision beyond my eyes, and her style is unsurpassed. There are few essentials that she stressed I have, and I have to admit, they have been timeless....

So lets get to it. Pearls are a timeless staple. They go with everything, EVERYTHING. They are the perfect touch to any outfit. To me pearls are classy, simple and sophisticated. Although I'm into costume jewelry, I would suggest investing in a set of actual pearls, (freshwater, seawater)-just not plastic. Although pearls depending on their rarity can become pricey I think you can find a great strand of pearls for 30 - 50 dollars. In terms of the style and color, I think that's really up to you and your personality. The most timeless are white pearls with the choker style. With the choker style, the pearls fit very close to your neck.

For those who aren't sure how to rock a set of pearls, try a pair of dark denim jeans, with some gladiators (slippers) and a simple fitted white tee shirt.

Try that same look, with some pumps/ sandals (heels), and a form fitting blazer that cinches at your waist.

The Great thing about Pearls is that they are both causal and formal. Challenge yourself to a set of pearls, and create 3 different looks with that strand: an evening look, day look, and work appropriate look. Have fun with it!

The Basics Challenge

"how do you value your time"...how do you value your money. When it comes to fashion, how do we spend our money?

I'm a spontaneous buyer, let me put it out there. I love shopping, at the flip of an emotion, I'm online checking out the deals. In fact if Milwaukee had a Neiman, Loehmans, Barneys, hell a closer BCBG outlet, I'd probably be there everyday. But 60 miles is a firm commitment, and not a drive one takes lightly.

So how do you create your wardrobe? What do you buy to make it fabulous. Versatility is key. I can't say I'm the same person each day, with the same thoughts and feelings from the day before. I'm dynamic, and that should transcend in my appearance.

So what creates the most versatility- The Basics. You would be surprised.

I personally believe that the basics are the essentials, and that the essentials are the basics. Both are interchangeable in this context.

So here's my challenge to you, what are the basics or essentials that you should have in your wardrobe? Beyond that, what are the most valuable pieces in your wardrobe? What makes your wardrobe fabulous?

Check in next week-

Time

So, I just came back from a meeting. Nothing crazy. The general theme of the meeting was membership recruitment and members playing more of an active role within the organization.
....A little background, I heard of this organization through school, they had a student chapter that was tied to a professional active chapter in Milwaukee. I joined the student chapter in hopes of developing some networking ties. I think I invested a solid year into the organization, attending events, monthly meetings, supporting initiatives. I even attended a conference...
So while listening to the leadership of this organization, promote their organization, and their "brand" at this meeting, I couldn't help but feel so disconnected. No offense to them, but they weren't meeting my basic needs.
It became apparent that the direction that the organization was geared towards did not fall in line with my goals and objective. Beyond that, the general vibe of the individuals within the group did not seem to mesh with mine. I just felt out of place. I suppose I convinced myself if I stuck around and ignored the obvious, I would get what I need/ want eventually.
Keeping with the saying no experience is wasted, I began to think about how I spend my time.
Just in case you haven't realized, my time is priceless, as is yours.
Which leads me into the next challenge... How do you spend your time, how do you value your time? The Basics Challenge.... More to come
